Retirement savings - Tips You Can Live With

Written by Sam Phillips on October 24, 2008 – 4:52 pm -

Retirement savings can be slim right now with the cost of nearly everything going up. With the economy in a crunch who doesn’t need to save? Health care insurance, car insurance, home and fire insurance among other things.

Here are several tips that may make you smile:

Retirees are the smartest people in the world. You’ve lived long enough to know how to do so many things young folks don’t yet have a clue on. For example…

Nearly everyone has a hobby but a rare hobby could be in great demand. If you know how to produce ” old timey ” stuff you might find yourself staying busy making them. Retirement has its advantages but for those who sadly have lost their loved ones, it can be a lonely affair.

So much more the reason to search out another person local who is alone and see if they’d like to double up to make money from these outdated designs. Two heads are better than one. Also, like for men, one may have a machine or tool shop already setup. Both could share equal expenses for any project you build plus share equal profits after the overhead.

( However, two could do this, even if their mate is still living. )

What are some items that you often don’t see except perhaps at a antique shop or store? Remember the old corn grinder? I haven’t see one since I was a kid. The old hatchets we used to cut and shock the corn. I haven’t saw those for many moons. ( years )

The old model cars, crank and all, are very popular, if they can be found. Could you do something like this? Ah, the old locomotives scale models. They are high in demand, but very hard to find.

You ladies can cut in on these retirement savings too. What about the old hats? Sorry, I’m sitting here trying to think what they’re called, but it aludes me at the moment. Perhaps, one of you kind women can straighten my memory out. Anyway, laugh at me, but I think that might be a well selling hobby to make some good retirement money.

And dear ladies, what about the old churn. Something else hadn’t see for many years. If you couldn’t make one, twist the arm of your hubby until he does. You could enjoy making some very decent money and it really isn’t that hard.

Another plus is the fellowship. One thing I’ve noticed among many retirees is just plain loneliness. Women especially, seem to crave getting together and just talking. We men do too. Not as much though. My wife loves getting together with other women and chatting. It actually makes her happy and elated. I’ve always been somewhat of a “quiet” person who can be by myself or around people either one. So I’m sure it is a relief to fellowship with others.

So there’s a couple tips for retirement savings and fun get togethers. By the way, to save my life, I can’t remember what the older style hats women wore. If anyone knows, pass it to me, so I can use the right terms. My granny wore one all the time . Have fun making money and new friends too.

High Demand Jobs For Retirees - Seniors wanted!

Written by Sam Phillips on September 11, 2008 – 9:51 pm -

There is high demand jobs for retirees. You are wanted and needed. Some tell me they are not interested in learning computer basics, not even owning one. You say you do want to keep working.  So, find something you would like to train in and would enjoy. Consider this:

It’s a fact that those retired and still working make the best employees, bar none.

Employers are starting to really notice senior citizens. Why? Because they become the most loyal, ever day on time help they can possibly find. And they obey orders! Plus take pain staking pride in doing the job right the first time.

So is it any wonder there is such high demand jobs for retirees? For example:

In yonder years gone by, truck companies wanted the lean and mean young folk only to drive their rigs. They could drive all day and then all that night, keeping 3 log books, and make lots of money. If they got sleepy just pop some pills full of caffeine and they were good to go.

But after a few months, many accidents and some deaths, and law suits on their hands, owners finally figured it out. It really took years, but for the past short span, their eyes are open to retirees. Retirement folks make the best drivers in the world. So, would you like to drive a tractor trailer?

Let me stress, either local or long haul, your choice. Sound good, then start calling locals to begin.

How about a green house? Exotic Flowers. Vegetables. Or both. Good friend of mine loves doing that after retiring. He drove a truck for many years.

Does a little produce stand beside the road turn you own? Would you enjoy that? This makes a great joint venture among a couple of seniors needing to work and making good money at the same time. You could always work for someone else doing this, to learn the ropes.

There is always high demand jobs for retirees in travel. Certain types of security, whether by water or even plane, are looking for trustworthy people just like you. More on this next post - be watching.

Retirement Income - Snowbirding Is Not Just For The Birds

Written by Sam Phillips on August 20, 2008 – 11:56 am -

Retirement income can come in many sizes, shapes, and colors. Fellow retirees, may I speak to you from my heart? Millions of us baby boomers are hitting that time of life when we really should have more pleasure out of living than ever. Sad fact is, many of us can hardly survive because of financial woes.

To make it worse, many wonderful retiring people are ashamed to let anyone know they’ve reached those golden years without a large nest egg. Some don’t even have one egg in their basket.

Fellow seniors, listen up. Stop worrying about what someone else may think of you. Quit hiding because of embarrassment. I have the solutions you can use to solve your low esteem feelings. Before I tell you a secret that could change your life, allow me to tell you a story.

A man, we’ll call Tony, had reached the age of senior citizen. He’d worked hard all his life in a cotton mill. It was only 9 months before his retirement income would be his because he would be 65. Suddenly, the large mill shut down without notice. Overnight, he’d lost all his benefits and at his age, where could he find a job? Day after day he hunted for work, but although everyone treated him with respect, he knew they were just not wanting a older man for employment.

At the end of 2 months searching without success he had become extremely depressed. No money in the bank, and the few dollars left in his pocket was all that kept him from starvation. He had too much pride to get help. He didn’t want anyone to know. He was biginning to think maybe suicide would be his answer, just end it all. So he started making plans on the easiest, fastest way.

Walking along, feeling helpless and discouraged, he noticed a piece of paper fluttering on the ground just in front of his feet. He picked it up, read it, and for the frst time, a spark of life began to glow within him. The words simply said that if there was a need of work, call this number. He called and the lady set him up an appointment for one hour later.

He would train, learning basic computer first, then helping others to find a job. He once again had a job, but one so much better. His job was snowbirding. He would travel to the warm areas in the winter then head back to the mountains to enjoy cool fresh air and the best job he’d ever had.

Now, he’s learning a home business that will not only pay his bills, but give him the option to see the beautiful USA anytime he wanted to. His computer could go with him and so could his job.

Here’s my secret to help you. There are jobs all across America, that will hire you, allowing you to work for a time in one area then when it gets cold, you can go to a warm climate for the season. This is called snowbirding. Simply look up or have someone look up ” snowbirding ” with the quotes on a computer for lots of details. You’ll see it’s not just for the birds.

Perhaps others, needing retirement income, but not wanting to travel, would love to learn computer basics and start a home business. It’s not hard, you just need to take action and learn. Retirement Jobs - Have Fun Not Boredom

Written by Sam Phillips on August 19, 2008 – 10:30 pm -

Did you know retirement jobs are good for you? It’s true! Many test have proven that people who are bored and unhappy get sick much more often. Mental Institutions are filled with people. Many case histories have shown that large groups of mental illness starts with a dull lifestyle.

In other words:

Many of these people had no goals driving them, there was no lovely music, no exercise, no laughing and having a merry heart, no looking forward to the delightful smile of a little child, no self amusement. (Pardon all the no’s, I hate them too) Do some simple research to prove this a fact.

Retirees working retirement jobs are usually much more healthy. Their brains are sharper, they face life with a more positive attitude. They smile more, have more confidence. They tend to have more fun.

There’s folks that work to retirement then go sit out on the porch all day watching the traffic go by. Day after day. Weeks into months. One day they’re not out there and you find out they unexpectably passed away.

Fellow retirees, we need exercise and to do work even more than the younger generation. We need to do some good old fashion physical work both with our body and our brain. Did you know learning a new language will actually cause your brain IQ to rise? Did you know walking increases the oxygen to the brain, therefore making your brain sharper?

Make a point of having fun around home or shopping.

Don’t ride the powerful mower that cruses like a cadillac and you almost go to sleep it is so comfortable. No, instead use the push mower. Why? You’ll lose weight, you won’t be bored, your body and brain will work better. Do you need more reason? Go shopping, park your vehicle as far away from the stores as possible and walk.

So whether your retirement jobs are at home or abroad find ways to have lots of fun and get plenty of exercise. Ride the bike, carry your groceries, climb the highest hill, run in a handicap marathon. (Only do these things if you’re healthy and with the good judgement and good sense of your health advisor.) Have fun working fellow retiree, you’ve earned it.
